Flanders & The Western Front

The battles which took place in Flanders and The Somme between 1914 and 1918 were on an unprecedented scale. Our tour is based in Mouscron, Belgium close to the French border within easy reach of the Menin Gate and Ypres, one of the most visited places of the area.

Staying at the 4* Hotel Alize, Mouscron

Our hotel is centrally located close to the Grand Place with many bars & cafes and offers 62 comfortable bedrooms with bath or walk in shower, ideally situated for our Battlefields experience.

Our Itinerary
DAY 1 After your doorstep service we join our luxury coach and travel to York with free time before arriving in Hull for our overnight sailing to Rotterdam in Holland, having accommodation in outside cabins with side-by-side berths and on board entertainment.
DAY 2 After clearing customs we join our luxury coach and travel south through Holland into Belgium and to our hotel arriving in the afternoon allowing time to explore Mouscron before evening dinner and a stay of 4 nights.
DAY 3 After breakfast we drive to Ypres where we have free time before we meet our guide for a city walking tour visiting the Cloth Hall and Menin Gate. In the afternoon we visit Tyne Cot Cemetery and then return to Ypres where you can sample one of the many restaurants at leisure before experiencing the last post ceremony at the Menin Gate before returning to our hotel.
DAY 4 A full day today as we take in the Somme, Peronne, Lochnagar Crater, Thiepval Memorial and Newfoundland Park before returning to our hotel for dinner.
DAY 5 Today we visit Poperinge which at one time was one of only two towns not under German occupation. See Talbot House and the Town Hall. Then onto Lijssenthoek Military Cemetary and visitor centre, site of the largest evacuation hospital, before returning to our hotel for relaxation and dinner.
DAY 6 After breakfast we leave Mouscron and drive to Dunkirk for our late morning sail with DFDS to Dover, with included light lunch on boardbefore our journey north and door-to-door service to our home areas.
